Teaming up with band members Martyn Casey (bass), Warren Ellis (violin, guitar) and Jim Sclavunos (drums), the group went into a London studio in 2006 and began a marathon session of writing material aiming to recreate the more raw, primal sound like that of Cave's celebrated post-punk project The Birthday Party. The quartet released their second and final album, Grinderman 2, in September 2010. Recorded in 2009 and co-produced by Grinderman and Nick Launay, the album features the singles “Heathen Child” and “Worm Tamer.” Exploring more psychedelic territory than its predecessor, Grinderman 2 is a looser and more experimental record. With their raw bluesy-garage rock infusing with these diverse influences, this is a hallucinatory and sonically sound album. In December 2011, Cave announced the band's breakup at a music festival in Australia.
