Formed in the San Fernando Valley in 1977, The Dickies hold the distinction of being one of the first West Coast punk bands to sign with a major label (A&M Records). Driven by vocal powerhouse Leonard Graves Phillips and guitarist Stan Lee, the band took the speed and urgency of early punk rock and injected it with campy humor, Saturday morning cartoon energy, and infectious pop hooks.

Known for their high-powered live shows featuring prop comedy—including puppets, inflatable toys, and costumes—The Dickies perfected the art of the sub-two-minute punk anthem. Beyond their catchy originals like "You Drive Me Ape (You Big Gorilla)", they became famous for hyper-speed cover versions of classic rock and pop tunes, including their legendary rendition of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and the theme from Banana Splits.

Over four decades later, The Dickies remain an essential pillar of 1970s Los Angeles punk rock, directly influencing generations of pop-punk, skate-punk, and melodic hardcore acts that followed.
