Dallas, Texas and Nashville were the beginnings for the alternative rock outfit Sixpence None the Richer. Getting their name from a popular C.S. Lewis book “Mere Christianity,” the duo would eventually add more members and tour around this debut release, earning them accolades from fans and the music industry insiders.

With the steady guitar work and lyrics of Matt Slocum, and the delicate and artful vocals of Leigh Nash, their debut album took off thanks to a devoted fan base that initially saw them perform in churches, coffee houses, and other intimate venues, which eventually bring them across the globe thanks to future Dove Awards and mainstream rock, pop and alternative airplay.

1993’s The Fatherless and the Widow is an amazing debut which channels some of the alternative leaning music we heard in the late 80’s into the mid 90’s, but with a much more artistic approach, and a touch of class thanks to the stunning voice of Leigh Nash. Tunes like “Trust,” “Field of Flowers” and the title track “The Fatherless and the Widow” would soon become standard Sixpence repertoire and manna for their growing fan base.

After calling it quits in early 2000’s, there were several attempts to have a reunion, but now the amazing band is back again on tour in 2025 with a playing all over the world.

To celebrate this news, Friday Music is very pleased to announce the first-time colored vinyl release of The Fatherless and the Widow. Mastered by Joe Reagoso from the Melody Catalog LP tapes.
