First Impressions & Sound

I was excited for this album but with reservations. The album started and I was skeptical on what to expect. There are some real bangers on this album however, there are some swing and misses in my honest opinion. And well.. isnโ€™t that why you are hereโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคฃ

The product description provided to stores to promote the album does outline the album as both familiar and alien. I think this much is true. There is ode to the past Modest Mouse but also launching them with more modern/futurism new sounds.

Side Note: I am not a fan of interludes on an album. A true waste of space on an album. That song could have been a longer intro or outtro before or after vs. a stand along song with 27 seconds of instrumentals.ย

I think overall the album is really good but there are some skips. What do you all think?

The Track-By-Track Highlights

Some of this album is giving โ€œMatt Berlinger/The Nationalโ€ vibes and I am def here for that. I think there is an overall wave of influences by the dark wave era in modern music right now (seen by American Football, AFI etc.) and this album is no different. You can hear influences from the likes of Smiths and the Cure but also reverting to the classic Modest Mouse sound they are so famous for. Worth the listen and some song will absolutely be making their way to my "Liked" playlist that gets much listening from these ears.
